  • THE REV’D Boyd Evans

    Reverend Boyd Evans (he/him) grew up in the Episcopal Church in Middle Tennessee. From an early age, he developed a deep appreciation of the Episcopal Church’s balance between worship in the ancient tradition and commitment to being a nurturing and loving place for all people to bring life’s challenging questions. Fr. Boyd previously served at St. Thomas in Abingdon, Virginia, and he has spent extensive time in the Holy Land as a youth minister and missioner to the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem. While preparing for ordination at Sewanee, Rev. Evans spent three years as a campus minister and ministry assistant at All Saints’ Chapel, which is recognized for its liturgical excellence within the Anglican high church tradition. Boyd holds a doctorate in biomedical engineering and formerly worked as a scientist at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He has a passion for social justice and outreach ministries. In his spare time, he enjoys music and spending time in the outdoors.

  • THE REV’D ELIZABETH “WIB” GARFIELD

    DEACON

    As deacons in The Episcopal Church hold jobs in the secular world, Wib is employed as a paralegal specializing in civil litigation with a private practice firm in downtown Denver. Wib’s ministry focuses on seeking out those persons who have been displaced from their homes, families and community and this is lived out through the time she serves at Sacred Heart House and The Delores Project. Additionally, as Deacon, Wib works to empower and support the outreach committee, the parish, and individuals discerning their personal calls to outreach ministry by providing access to resources available for those in need beyond the walls of St. Andrew’s.

    Wib was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and grew up in Minnesota, Illinois and Iowa. She obtained a degree in political science from Iowa State University. She was ordained by Bishop O'Neill in 2007.

    In addition to the time she spends in support of her ministry in the Denver community, she loves to knit (not so much to tink), cook, read, and spend time walking and playing with her dog Mabel.

  • TIMOTHY J. KRUEGER

    CHOIRMASTER

    Timothy J. Krueger, Choirmaster at St. Andrew's, studied musicology at the University of Colorado, Boulder; the University of Hamburg, Germany; and the University of London's Royal Holloway College. He is the founder and artistic director of St. Martin's Chamber Choir, Colorado's first professional choir, with whom he has recorded twelve critically acclaimed CDs; and is on the musicology faculty at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Formerly he was chorus master of the Boulder Bach Festival, the Colorado Music Festival, and has worked professionally with such ensembles as the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, Chicago a cappella, Vox Early Music Ensemble (Ann Arbor), Episcopal cathedral choirs such as St. John's in Denver and St. Paul's in Detroit, the Santa Fe Opera, and the Ars Nova Singers of Boulder.

  • RALPH B. VALENTINE

    ORGANIST

    Ralph B. Valentine, Organist at St. Andrew's, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University and a Master of Sacred Music degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He began his teaching career at Rosemary Hall School in Greenwich, Connecticut, and moved with the school to Wallingford, Connecticut, when it merged with The Choate School in 1971. At Choate Rosemary Hall he was Head of Music, Choral Director, School Organist, and Instructor in Theory, Harmony, Counterpoint, History, Composition, Organ, and Harpsichord for forty-two years. A past Dean of the New Haven Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, Mr. Valentine also served as Organist and Choirmaster at St. Andrew's Church in Stamford, St. Andrew's Church in Meriden, and for thirty-four years as the Organist and Choirmaster at St. John’s Episcopal Church in West Hartford, Connecticut. He has been active as a recitalist, consultant, workshop leader, accompanist, and composer.

  • SCOTT COULTER

    MINISTER TO CHILDREN AND YOUTH

    Scott grew up in Boulder, Colorado. From a young age, he felt himself drawn to the deeper questions of the spiritual life. Throughout his childhood and adolescence, he explored the philosophies and practices of the world’s religions, not ready to settle down with one tradition, but always eager to explore the questions.

    He earned his undergraduate degree in Jazz Piano Performance from New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA. From there, he began a teaching career that continues to this day, working with a wide range of music students, age 5 to 85.

    In 2007, Scott graduated with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work from Bryn Mawr College outside Philadelphia, where he lived for 20 years before moving back to Colorado with his wife, Carmen, in July of 2021. As a social worker, he has worked almost exclusively with children, youth and families, in settings ranging from residential treatment centers to schools and outpatient clinics in Philadelphia.

    It wasn’t until adulthood that Scott found his spiritual home in the Episcopal Church, falling in love with the ancient ritual and deep contemplation of our tradition. Having been given the freedom to follow his own conscience in his personal spiritual journey, Scott is deeply gratified to have the opportunity to offer deep, real and relevant spiritual formation with the children and youth of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.

  • JON MOORE

    PARISH ADMINISTRATOR

    Jon studied History at Metropolitan State University Denver. He graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts with a Minor in Communication Studies.

    He graduated from Iliff School of Theology in May 24’ with his Masters of Divinity Degree.

    He and his partner, Stephen, reside in Aurora and the just purchased a townhome there.

    Jon enjoys traveling, studying church history, and is an avid cinephile, enjoying horror, comedy, and drama films. He is passionate about LGBT+ causes and Suicide Prevention and Awareness. He also loves holidays and the pattern of the Liturgical Calendar- you should see his house at Halloween!

    As administrator, he is committed to offering a welcoming presence, whether in the office or over email. He welcomes feedback and input on how to better deliver on these commitments.

Our New Rector

We welcome the Rev. Boyd Evans and his spouse, Kathy, who will join us from Abingdon, Virginia, where they have dedicated the past eight years to serving St. Thomas Episcopal Church. At St. Thomas, Fr. Boyd focused on building the parish's lay ministries, improving their connection with those in need, and helping St. Thomas establish a strategic vision for the parish and its historic building. He was heavily involved in regional advocacy for social justice through his work with the Appalachian Peace Education Center. St. Thomas experienced a significant increase in its outreach ministries during Rev. Evans’ tenure, including establishing a Remote Placement Refugee Center (RCPC) with approval from the U.S. State Department. Their first refugee family from Venezuela is about to celebrate its one-year anniversary in the U.S. He led a medical debt relief campaign that eliminated $5.7 million in medical debt in Southwestern Virginia. One of the highlights of his time at St. Thomas was the confirmation of a participant in their monthly WeCare dinner for those living in group homes. He also chaired a collaboration of Episcopal Churches providing sole support to the St. Paul’s School in Beaudin Jean Pierre, Haiti. Father Boyd is a lifelong Episcopalian. Before seminary, Father Boyd obtained a doctorate in biomedical engineering and served as a scientist at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. During his time in Oak Ridge, he also served for seven years as the youth minister at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in a team with his wife Kathy; they also assisted in diocesan-wide youth functions and mission trips. In addition, he spent time as a devoted lay minister, serving as a lay preacher and senior warden during a critical time of rebuilding for his parish near Oak Ridge. During his time in seminary at the University of the South in Sewanee, Father Boyd spent three years as a campus minister and ministry assistant at All Saints’ Chapel which is recognized for its liturgical excellence within the Anglican high church tradition. He also focused energy and worked at the urban ministry located at St. Luke’s in downtown Atlanta. In this role, Father Boyd served as a chaplain at a men’s homeless shelter and focused on addiction recovery. Additionally, he assisted at the Blue Monarch home in Pelham, Tennessee, which supports women along with their children as the women recover from addiction, abuse, and economic hardships. Father Boyd has spent extensive time in the Holy Land as a youth minister and missioner to the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem; in Jerusalem, he was a teacher’s aide at the Episcopal School in Ramallah, assisted with summer camps in Nazareth and Zebabdeh, and helped with children’s programs in refugee camps throughout the region. He also has a deep love and connection to the Holy Land Institute for the Deaf (HLID), in Salt, Jordan - which provides much-needed educational resources for children who are deaf and those who are both deaf and blind. Father Boyd holds a profound appreciation for nature and finds spiritual connection with the divine through creation. He is an avid mountain biker, hiker, and skier/snowboarder. Two of his favorite spiritual practices are nature photography and trail running. With these interests, he anticipates moving to Colorado and being with us. He will arrive in the Denver area in February and is excited to celebrate his first Sunday at St. Andrew’s on February 9, 2025.
